Paralegal

Kara’s Biography

I grew up on a family farm in southwest Minnesota with two sisters and one brother.  I graduated from Jasper High School in 1983.  My husband and I began dating in high school and have been married for over 35 years.  We have been blessed with a daughter and a son.  Our family has grown as both of our children have married and we have two grandsons and one granddaughter.

After graduating high school, I attended Granite Falls Vocational School, and I started my career at Citibank in 1984.  While I was employed at Citibank, I went back to night school at Kilian Community College and continued to work full-time at Citibank.  In 1992, I received my Paralegal Degree, with honors, and started my new career as the first paralegal at the Public Defender’s Office in Sioux Falls.

As a paralegal, I have served as the primary investigator in criminal cases ranging from theft to homicides, and in the past few years, in post-conviction litigation.  The majority of my paralegal career has been spent in the criminal defense field, with a few years spent at the United States Attorney’s Office.  While at the United States Attorney’s Office, my main focus was in the Child Support Division, where I received national recognition.  In June of 2012, I left the Public Defender’s Office and joined Jeff Larson Law.  In 2013, I was proud to share the South Dakota Outstanding Criminal Defense Lawyers Outstanding Lawyer Award with Jeff Larson.  In January of 2022, the firm’s name was changed to Resolute Law Firm, PC.

I have been fortunate to work with many talented professionals in the legal field and have been part of great defense teams, and I look forward to advocating for future clients.
